My Story, as an Access Program Student
I am Iiman Borchashvili 16 years old and I live in Pankisi. I am a student at Duisi Public School. Also, I am an Access Program student. It is the fifth year I am interested in environmental issues and I am actively involved in environmental projects. I got involved in an environmental project for the first time in 2018. It was a waste paper competition, where we created a team and collected up to 800 kilograms of waste paper. After participating in this competition, I became very interested in environmental issues, here I met people who were working in the field of ecology. After that, they helped me to get involved in various activities and get participation. In 2019, I participated in the Niko Ketskhoveli school competition, which my eco-club and I won. The main goal of the competition is to provide the schoolchildren with information about the Sustainable Development Goals and to demonstrate their ability to make changes on their own to improve the natural and social environment. The participants in the competition themselves become participants in the process of sustainable development. We organized more than 650 environmental activities during the competition. We planned projects on climate change, waste management, and environmental pollution, and conducted awareness campaigns. I am a member of Akhmeta Youth Idea where we announce a grant competition every year and fund 4-5 projects throughout the year. We, also hold informational meetings on various topics. I graduated from Ecolider School at the Center for Environmental Information and Education, where I received endless information on environmental issues. We had field trips and meetings. At the same center, I am a volunteer for the Climate Change Disaster Reduction Project, where we are being trained and the camp will be held in March. This project is long-term and I will gain a lot of knowledge here. In 2021, I won the Young Environmentalist nomination at CENN, Winning this competition brought me great success as I was offered a partnership by the organization such as Polyvim. Together with my team, I won the climate change competition of the non-governmental organization Oiko Tbilisi. I volunteer at various organizations such as Helping Head and Volunteer Hub, where we help students gain knowledge of what they are not aware of. I am in Akhmeta Innovation Hub, one of the organizers of the Sustainable Development Goals and Eco-Intellectual Championship. I have also written a project that has been approved and will be implemented in Akhmeta Municipality very soon. This is part of what projects I was involved in I think we should go ahead and not back down. ”Be a part of the solution not part of the pollution”.
